Walk the Darby Creek Trail from Gillespie Park to Kent Park

Saturday, June 3rd, 11:50am

On Saturday, June 3rd members of The Friends of Upper Darby Trails will lead a walk from Gillespie Park in Clifton Heights south to the newly built bridge across The Darby Creek to The Swedish Cabin in Drexel Hill.

Meet at Gillespie Park at 11:50 AM, then step off at 12:00 noon sharp. On the Gillespie side the trail winds through the curves of a riparian buffer of more than 400 newly planted trees and 250 shrubs. Towards the bottom of the trail a ramp rises to the new bridge which spans 150’ across The Darby Creek. This 66 ton (without the concrete) behemoth of a bridge was assembled in place from two extremely large pieces, then hoisted into place. Please bring your cameras for pix of both the bridge itself and views from the bridge.

On the Drexel Hill side sits the Swedish Cabin. We will have those folks who are members of the Friends of The Swedish cabin speak of it. After that short tour you may continue south along the trail to the Creek Road stop of the Sharon Hill trolley, then an additional 700 yards to the Kent Park Dog Park and the Kent Park Loop. This loop is the current southern end of the Darby Creek Trail in Upper Darby.

The full down and back walk is approximately 2.5 miles.
